Michael is a versatile composer, music producer, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist who has built a significant portfolio of work across a range of musical styles for various media. Michael prides himself on attention to detail while creating fresh, exciting and emotional soundtracks unique to each project to enhance the experience for the audience.
After gaining a BA (Hons) Music Production from Leeds College of Music Michael has worked in a technical role at the Brewery Arts Centre and completed a Youth Music Traineeship before focusing on freelance composition and music production projects. Studying and employment have provided essential first hand experience in the arts and media industries and a thorough understanding of modern technology and working practices.
Michael has worked with several filmmakers including Seb Montaz-Rosset and Christophe Margot and moving image credits include Red Bull Media House, Salomon Sports, Mavic, Lange, Scott and Montagne TV while collaborations in theatre and dance have been performed at prestigious venues including the Brewery Arts Centre (Kendal), The Lowry (Manchester) and Central School of Speech and Drama (London).
Michael also has a strong passion for a range of contemporary music genres, as part of ’Tokyo Lost’ he gained airplay and performed a live session for BBC Radio and was a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest. Michael also works as an electronic artist under the name ’Tokyo Tokyo’ and is preparing an EP of original material for a release early 2013 as a follow up to his acclaimed remix of the Chapel Club track Good Together. For his popular composition work Michael was selected to attend BBC Introducing Musician’s Masterclass at Abbey Road and Maida Vale Studios.
2012 has been another exciting year, and there are many more projects in the making and on the horizon for 2013. Michael is also be delivering teaching as a Music Technology, Production and Composition specialist in Post-Compulsory education. Michael is currently in collaboration with his brother Simon on a new project called ‘Salen Ghost Ships’, and they have recently been recording an EP in Cardiff which will be released January 2013.
