Michael Denny Music Composer and Music Producer

Michael Denny is a versatile composer, music producer, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist who has built a significant portfolio of work across a range of musical styles for various media. Michael prides himself on attention to detail while creating fresh, exciting and emotional soundtracks unique to each project to enhance the experience for the intended audience.

Michael worked with Calm CEO Michael Acton Smith to compose music for focus, relaxation and sleep culminating in the launch of the Calm Music, in December 2017 Calm was named Apple App of the year. Michael recently released the album Aurora: Music for Relaxation and is currently working on a number of projects for clients worldwide.

Michael composes for a range of library music albums, recent solo releases include 'Emotional Indie', ‘Cinematic Ambiences’, 'Frantic Indie', 'Mindfulness Soundscapes', alongside contributions to 'Tension Drones', 'Punk Rock Pop', 'Edgy British Indie Rock', 'Building Hybrid Pulses' 'Country Pop', 'Happy Ambient Christmas', 'Cute Droid Blips' and 'Awful Musicians' on the Gothic Storm, Lovely Music, Minim and Future Pop labels. Upcoming tracks cover genres including neo-classical, indie, pop punk, sound design and atmospheric soundscapes. Michael also recently produced demo tracks for Gothic Instruments Dronar Master Edition, Heartwood Soundware and Bunker Strings.

As a sound designer, sample content, loops and field recordings have been produced for Sample Magic, Native Instruments Sounds and MusicTech Magazine. The 'Ambient Textural Toolkit' and 'Lo-Fi Piano' packs were top ten bestsellers while ‘Atmospheric Textures’, 'Field Recordings' and 'Downtempo Piano Toolkit' were MusicTech Magazine exclusives included on the cover-mount DVDs. Michael is currently a finalist in a music and sound design competition on the Christian Henson YouTube Channel (Spitfire Audio).

Michael has released number of solo records, the latest album 'Noir' is part of Emotive Soundtracks, a collaboration with Olympic Gold Medal winning Dressage Composer Tom Hunt. Previous releases include ‘We Still Have Hope’, ‘The Moment When You Realise EP’ and the album ‘Sound as a Weapon’.

Michael is the founder of the music and creative industry site The Audio Tapes with regular content covering topics ranging from productivity and professional development to recommendations, tips articles and reviews including Output. Michael has also written content for Sound on Sound Magazine, Red Dog Music Blog and the Sample Magic Journal.

Commercially Michael has worked with several filmmakers including Seb Montaz-Rosset and Christophe Margot with moving image credits include Red Bull Media House, Salomon Sports, Kilian’s Quest, Mavic, Lange, Scott Sports, Ruffwear and Montagne TV. Collaborations in theatre and dance have been performed at prestigious venues including the Science Museum IMAX Theatre (London), Brewery Arts Centre (Kendal), The Lowry (Manchester) and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Shoreditch Town Hall (London).

Michael is a lover of popular and contemporary music and has performed, written and recorded with a number of bands and artists. Highlights include being featured on BBC Radio One Huw Stephens Show as a member of the band MEDS followed by a live session recorded for BBC Introducing to performing as part of the comedy musical house band the Brett Domino Trio on ITVs Britains Got Talent and the Firebox organised Berwickstock Festival in London. Under the MDM RMX moniker Michael has remixed artists including Chvrches, Maximo Park, Nick Hodgson (Kaiser Chiefs), Chapel Club and Bayley (The Open).
